Discovering overlooked value,

shaping it into future forms.

By observing the evolution of materials and technology,

we seek to rediscover bodily sensations and relationships with nature

that have often been overlooked in the process of modernization

through contemporary design and fabrication methods.

ZKI design is a design studio that explores the relationships between material, technology, space, and society,

developing them into architecture, interiors, products, installations, and visualization.

Approach

From observation to concept

From concept to form

ZKI design carefully observes values that are often overlooked.

By reading the relationships between material, space, and society,

we move back and forth between research, concept design, visualization, prototyping,

and implementation to realize new forms of design.

01

Observe

Reading the values hidden within objects and places

02

Frame

Defining questions and directions, giving shape to the concept

03

Visualize

Making ideas shareable through 3DCG, drawings, and visual studies

04

Fabricate

Connecting ideas to materials, technology, and making, and developing them toward implementation

Expertise

A.

Design

Architecture / Interior / Product / Installation

From concept design to realization,

we design spaces and products across multiple scales.

B.

Research & Making

Sustainable Design / Material Research / Digital Fabrication

We explore the inherent qualities, behavior, and fabrication processes of materials,

seeking new possibilities through prototyping and testing.

C.

Visualization & Computation

3DCG Visualization / Computational Design

Through design methods that combine visualization and programming, we support the testing, communication, and development of ideas.

Studio

Looking beyond disciplines to engage with what is essential

Space, material, and technology do not exist in isolation.

They find meaning through their relationships with one another.

Starting from design, ZKI design moves beyond disciplinary boundaries

to uncover overlooked value and connect it to forms that lead toward the future.

Takuya Shiotsuki

Representative / Designer

After studying architecture and urban design at Chiba University and its graduate school,

he worked at Takenaka Corporation as a first-class architect,

where he was involved in complex facade and interior design proposals

using 3DCG, programming, and environmental simulation.

Since becoming independent, his work has expanded from residential-scale spaces to furniture and product design.

In recent years, he has also been exploring products and material expressions

using recycled and unused materials.
